Breakfast idea: German Pancakes

These German Pancakes, a.k.a. Dutch Baby, are the absolute best! They are only 6 ingredients and take 5 minutes to prepare. These pancakes are sure to be a family favorite!

German Pancakes were a favorite of mine as kid! We ate them all the time, even making them ourselves because they were so easy!

I love that my kids also love them as well. They make a great breakfast, even dinner, or a snack for some hungry kids.

Top them with some powdered sugar, fruit, syrup or jam and get ready to dig in!

What are German Pancakes?

They have two names but are essentially the same. German Pancakes or Dutch Baby. They are an egg-based pancake that you bake.

Dutch Baby Pancakes are baked in a cast iron or other round pan.

German Pancakes are baked in a casserole dish or baking pan.

How to make German Pancakes

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Melt 5 tbsp of butter in your 9X13 pan while your oven is heating up. Once melted, remove pan from oven.

Mix together the eggs, milk, flour, vanilla and salt in a blender. Blend until thoroughly mixed.

Pour batter into pan with melted butter.

Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes.

It grows tall along the sides of the pan. Once it comes out of the oven and cools some, it deflates a bit.

NOTES:

  • Using a metal pan can wield better results than glass pans if you have one.
  • I like to melt my butter in my pan while the oven is heating up and I make my batter.
  • I’ve been known to make this in a cookie sheet. This results in a thinner pancake. I bake it at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes.
  • You don’t have to use a blender to make the batter, it’s just my preference. Feel free to whisk by hand.
  • Serve dusted with powdered sugar, syrup of choice, fruit of choice or even jam. Whatever you like on your pancakes works well for these. You won’t need butter since it already has lots of butter.

Thanks!

Thanks for being here, in this space with me. It brings me so much joy providing for my family (even though I hate cooking) and to be able to help others do the same for their own family just fills me with joy.
