Homemade Cake Mix

Say goodbye to box cake mix! This cake mix base can be made into whatever flavor you wish. It’s easy and so delicious.

On occasion, I like to bake my family some cupcakes or even an actual cake. I also like to make my family members their own cake for their birthdays.

I’ve been making more and more things from scratch, and I knew that cakes didn’t have many ingredients in them, and they certainly did not need all the extra ingredients in them. So now I use this recipe. And I absolutely love having this mix on my shelf whenever I get a hankering for a delicious cake.

My adult daughter told me this was her favorite cake and that I need to make it more often.

**Also, this recipe I wrote down not thinking about anything other than needing the recipe. This is NOT my recipe. If you know where it came from, PLEASE let me know. I’ve tried to scour where it came from and I haven’t been able to find it. I’d love to be able to give credit to whoever this recipe belongs to! Message me on Insta!

  • Jar (I used a half gallon mason jar. It can hold enough for 2 cakes.) A quart jar is perfect for one cake mix.
  • Bowl

Ingredients needed:

  • Sugar
  • Baking Powder

✨DAY 6✨ Today I dry made some cake mix and then vacuum sealed it. The jar in the video is a half gallon and enough for 2 cakes. #foodpreservation #homesteading #preservingfood #homesteadtok #simplyheidi #homesteadtok #madefromscratch #bakingtiktok #vacuumseal

How to make the mix

Mix together all dry ingredients.

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp bakig powder
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder (for chocolate cake only)

Store in an airtight container. My preference is a mason jar that I can vacuum seal so that it can stay fresh for a long time.

To make the cake:
**This makes enough for one cake.

Mix together all ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • About 3 cups of the cake mix (If you’ve made enough mix for more than one cake).

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. For a 13X9 inch pan bake for 35-40 minutes. If you’re making cupcakes, bake for 12-15 minutes. For round pans bake for 20-25 minutes.

Thank you!
