Recipe: Homemade Granola Bars

These are so easy and so much better than the store-bought ones with all those extra ingredients. These will fast become a family favorite.

If you’ve been around for a minute, you’ll know I’m on a mission to lessen the crap food my family eats and try to make them at home with better ingredients.

We go through a lot of granola bars between my littles and my teenager. They all love them. I knew that one day I’d have to figure out how to make them from home eventually.

And that time came. The inspiration for this recipe comes from my Energy Bites. Those have a few more ingredient than these (which you can totally make those into bars instead of balls) and I wanted to simplify the ingredient list to items that most people have in their homes.

With these granola bars, you can easily add more ingredients such as coconut, flax seed, nuts, dried fruit and more. You would just have to add less oats depending on what you added.

I would recommend making this recipe the way that it is first, get a feel for the texture of it and go from there. If you add too many dry ingredients, it’ll get crumbly (which is why you decrease the amount of oats).

Ingredients needed

  • Old fashioned oats
  • Peanut butter
  • Honey
  • chocolate chips
  • Salt
  • Vanilla

How to make Homemade Granola Bars

This is so easy! You just mix everything together in a bowl and the press it into a parchment lined pan. Refrigerate it for about an hour and then it’s ready to cut into bars.

It really is that simple. You’ll want to store them in the refrigerator.

Notes

I like to cut these into small squares as opposed to regular size granola bars. My littles tend to not eat a whole granola bar in one sitting and this makes it so there is less waste.

Thanks!

Notes:
  • I like to cut these into small squares as opposed to regular size granola bars. My littles tend to not eat a whole granola bar in one sitting and this makes it so there is less waste.
  • You can add other ingredients to these bars, just keep in mind that depending on how much you add, and what you add, you may need to decrease the amount of oats so that they aren’t too dry and crumbly.
