This edible cookie dough is a guilty pleasure! It’s so good, easy to make and a perfect little pick me up!

Who doesn’t love cookie dough? But what if you could enjoy it safely without risk? That’s where edible cookie dough comes in, and it’s as delicious as it sounds!

I LOVE cookie dough and having edible chocolate chip cookie dough has been a game changer for me. When I was kid, I would always beg my mom for the dough whenever she made cookies. I used to, and still do, prefer the dough over the actual cookie!

How is edible cookie dough different than regular cookie dough?

  • It’s recently come out that flour isn’t safe to eat raw, so you’ll want to put some flour on a baking sheet and bake it at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. That will make it safe for you to consume in recipes like cookie dough. You’ll want to spread it out evenly on a pan so that it will all heat the same.
  • As a kid, it was always because of the eggs that you shouldn’t eat cookie dough, and while I’m just a mom with no background on anything whatsoever, this is free from eggs so that if you don’t consume raw eggs, this is perfect for you. On the flip side, if you like to consume eggs to add protein, feel free! I’ve been known to add raw egg yolks to my chocolate milk. So, you do you.

Unlike regular cookie dough, edible cookie dough is safe to eat raw. The key difference is that it’s made without eggs and uses heat-treated flour to eliminate any food safety concerns. So, you can enjoy this sweet treat straight from the bowl without any worries.

I also have a chocolate chip cookie dough dip that’s perfect for get togethers of any kind.

Ingredients needed:

These are basically the same ingredients for regular cookie dough, just need to heat treat the flour. However, you can have fun with it and add in sprinkles, try different baking chips or any other add ins you’d like.

  • butter
  • brown sugar
  • sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • milk
  • flour
  • chocolate chips

How to make the edible cookie dough:

It’s similar to making regular cookie dough with the exception of heat treating the flour.

  • Heat treat flour (350 degrees for 5 minutes to kill any harmful bacteria)
  • Cream together butter and both sugars
  • Add in vanilla and milk and mix well.
  • Add in flour. Mix together.
  • Fold in chocolate chips. Enjoy!

Fun ways to serve edible cookie dough

Serve it in cute bowls at a party and you can top it off with some whipped cream for a more decadent dessert.

For some fun, popable edible cookie dough bites, roll it into small bite size bites and serve them in single serving cups. You can even have some dipping cups filled with caramel sauce or chocolate sauce to serve on the side.

As always, charcuterie boards are a fun way to display this along with other finger desserts for all your party guests.

Healthier alternatives

If you’re looking for heathier version of edible cookie dough, try substituting almond flour or oat flour for a gluten-free option.

Feel free to swap in coconut sugar for a lower glycemic index.

FAQ

Can I bake edible cookie dough into cookies?

I mean you can, but they won’t turn out like regular cookies. It is missing eggs and a leavening agent to help cookies rise. The texture will be different, and they will be flat as a pancake.

Is it safe to eat edible cookie dough if I’m pregnant?

I always recommend talking to your doctor or physician if you have any concerns about consuming anything while pregnant. However, if you heat treat the flour and don’t add eggs, then I personally don’t see any reason why it would be an issue (again, I’m just a mom with zero medical background in this).

Can I freeze edible cookie dough?

Absolutely! My favorite way to freeze this is when I roll the dough into small bite size pieces. Then it’s not frozen in a big block of dough. And I can also just grab a few bite size pieces when I’m wanting a pick me up without pulling out all of it.

How do I store the edible cookie dough?

Store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Want to keep it longer? It also freezes well for up to a month!
